Charging your battery is key to keeping it from freezing and discharging. Your battery will have a longer life, and you’ll get a lot more use from it.
We’ve tested the market and highly recommend these two automatic chargers, including the Battery Tender Junior, which is available through our website. Follow these guides for our favorite automatic chargers to make sure your battery is fully charged at all times, giving you the most bang for your buck.
Bench Style Charger
- Find the 2-amp setting on the 12-volt charger
- Hook up your battery with the provided alligator clips
- Charge your battery until it is up to 12.7 volts
- Do not overcharge your battery! We recommend charging your battery at no more than 2 amps. Charging over 2 amps can result in a dead or exploded battery
Battery Tender Junior
- Hook up your battery with the provided alligator clips
- Charge your battery until it is up to 12.7 volts
- The Battery Tender Junior will not overcharge your battery
You can also hardwire the Battery Tender Junior to your application and leave it attached. It will kick in and start charging when your battery goes below 12.7 volts, and shut off once you battery is fully charged.
Tips to Keep in Mind
- Always charge batteries in a well ventilated area and wear proper eye protection
- Make sure the charger is turned off and/or unplugged before connecting the leads to your battery to avoid sparks
- Never try to charge a visibly damaged or frozen battery
- Make sure the charger leads are securely attached to battery terminals
- Keep all sparks, flames, and cigarettes away from charging area
